“It is not what we think or feel that makes us who we are. It is what we do. Or fail to do…” ― Jane Austen, Sense and Sensibility
Red,White, and Royal Blue (2023) based off the book by Casey McQuiston is a LGBTQ+ Romantic Comedy. Now streaming on Amazon Prime. First, I want to say I am an ally to the LGBTQ+ community. Thank you for creating a movie that really digs deep into the beauty and struggles of this couple. The movie gives a great reflection of how the two main characters had such genuine love for each other even when they despised each other initially. I appreciate how film is becoming more progressive, this one especially felt so real and raw. Okay a women president and yes I would vote for Uma Therman. The transition at the New Year party scene just beautiful because it was the “AH-HA!” moment between the main characters (realizing they liked each other). The suits are so well put together, I guess you can always dress snazzy if you are either the President’s kid or the King’s grandkid.
It makes me so sad that the fact name and status has more control over the person versus the person having their own control. Even though I am not a member of LGBTQ+ and could not even begin to imagine the hardships this community goes through. This movie seems to represent most of those hardships starting from coming out, identifying yourself, first time making love, being accepted and of course the list goes on.
Since I am a Texan and Hispanic this movie really resonated with me in that aspect, but i definitely don’t want to get into politics even this movie was extremely political. I like the hope this movie brings to what the future could look like. The stunning love speech Alex delivered during a press conference, because you know every ROM COM has one, gives back the control and independence each character deserves. I just love a happy ending for them.
It is in fact one of the “Swooniest” movies I have seen. What is the Swooniest movie you have seen?
