Today I watched the 2023 movie based on the novel by Katherine Center, which is now streaming on Netflix. Let’s just say I need to read the book now! Like every Rom-Com the beginning sets the tone for who the recently single woman ends up with right… So initially I was like okay I am gonna learn more hiking tips right because I love the outdoors and hiking especially. Which I mean I did learn a thing or two, but wished that it had more hiking advice.
So this recently divorced woman is about to go on a 50+ mile guided hike with a group of other inexperienced hikers. Okay she has never gone hiking in her life, I mean if that’s not determination then I don’t know what is. I always felt the wilderness changes you and makes you appreciate things while seeing things in a different lens. So yes, you definitely do get lost in the wilderness but in the end you find yourself again.
I am literally watching this movie and feeling out of breath seeing them hike, is that even possible? Shout out to REI co-op for essentially sponsoring them. I love the fact the group has grown together, while they also built trust since they have to survive together without civilization. Mother Nature brings the closeness in everyone, especially the natural musk becoming more apparent. They also strengthen their mental health throughout the tough terrain.
This movie not only is a Rom-Com, but tried to incorporate the beauty and delicacy of how nature can be. Those shots of the beautiful autumn landscape with the changing colors in the leaves in the trees: JAW DROPPING! I don’t wanna completely ruin the twist. I do love the fact they incorporate disability and possible hardship and struggles that can arise in the relationship from it, my heart smiled. The ending leaves you wondering what happened a few months from now. That perfect poem to sum up the all the feelings that we all were feeling I know just gave the love story a beautiful send off.
Now I have to figure out what my trail name would be. What would yours be? As always I would love to hear your thoughts and your trail name too. Happy viewing!
